PVC (poly vinyl chloride) pond liner is a water tight 0.5mm thick black sheet used for lining ponds. This is a lightweight material is best used for smaller installations such as ornamental garden ponds. It is very flexible moulding readily around corners and shelves. PVC is not very elastic so it needs to be fitted carefully as it won’t readily stretch into small gaps and crevices.
This type of liner will go brittle and crack if exposed to the sun over a period of time therefore correct pond liner installation and maintenance are essential. It can’t be easily repaired as most pond liner repair products cause the liner to go brittle around the area it is applied to. This will then lead to further cracks and leaks, so protecting it with an underlay liner is essential.
PVC pond liner manufacturers guarantee is Lifetime for orders under 60 square meters and 20 years for orders over 60 square meters. Please see our Pond Liner Installation Guide for further details.

Rubber pond liners can also be readily repaired if required.
How to order your PVC pond liner
PVC pond liners are the least expensive choice when it comes to water containment. The size of a pond liner required is determined by measuring the width, length and depth of your pond. This calculation is also used to determine the volume of water to fill said pond size.
Garden space is usually what determines the dimensions of a pond build, which ideally needs to be in proportion to the other elements that make-up the space in its entirety. When planning your pond, it is important to remember to maximise the space available because larger ponds are easier to maintain. The greater the volume the longer it takes to warm-up in the summer months, whereas a small, shallow pond warms up quickly in sunny weather which then provides the perfect conditions for algae and bacterial growth. Ponds need to be at least 2 feet deep (0.6m) to avoid these issues. In Northern Hemisphere cold winter climates, ponds should also be more than 3 feet (0.91m) deep to avoid freezing over.
To calculate pond volume use the following formula: Length x Width x Depth x 7.4
Use our pond liner calculator to work out what size pond liner and underlay you need for your pond. Enter pond length, width and depth plus a recommended overlay of 30cm or 12 inches. The calculator will then determine how much pond liner you need.
Please note: Orders for a PVC liner must be between 2 and 10 meters in width. The width must be rounded up to the nearest whole number and length to the nearest half.
